Amazon Blockchain Templates launch on AWS ‘free of charge’
Amazon Blockchain Templates offers a fast track for developers, allowing them to integrate the technology into their businesses for free, on their Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform.
Although Microsoft and IBM have a head start offering blockchain services, as the world’s largest cloud infrastructure, Amazon has the potential to grow its share of the market quite rapidly.
Amazon are offering the service as a ‘free of charge’ add-on to their AWS resources, encouraging existing and new customers alike to launch blockchain into their businesses. Their website states:
“There is no additional charge for AWS Blockchain Templates. You pay only for the AWS resources needed to run your blockchain network.”
Partnering with the most popular blockchains, Ethereum and the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger Fabric, are offering two versions of the technology with pre-set frameworks for quick integration. Jeff Bar, Chief Evangelist for AWS stated in his blog that:
“These templates will let you launch an Ethereum (either public or private) or Hyperledger Fabric (private) network in a matter of minutes and with just a few clicks.”
The deployment of blockchain products on IBM’s cloud service has boosted their value, in the fourth quarter of last year they reportedly took $5.5 billion in revenue on cloud. Whilst Amazon reported $5.1 billion in revenue from AWS.
In the last few weeks, we have seen a quick succession of ‘Amazon blockchain’ related events. The company is expected to report earnings on Thursday (26th April 2018), which may offer further insight into this push from Jeff Bezos’ company.
