Ramping Up, Mastercard Calls For More Blockchain Developers
Mastercard Blockchain:
Global payment giant Mastercard announces it is hiring 175 new technology developers, including blockchain specialists, as they look to create more efficient payment systems from their Ireland HQ.
It is a significant move, given that they have filed an unprecedented number of patents relating to blockchain technology. Furthermore, this wave of hiring will create a massive 46% larger R&D workforce for Mastercard.
The global corporation has been openly engaging with BCTech since the release of their APIs in 2016, when they offered developers the chance to experiment. Chief Executive Officer, Ajay Banga said:
“The challenges of speed, of transparency and costs, both in domestic and cross-border payments in B2B, are more interesting than trying to find technology looking for a problem to solve in consumer payments”
In October 2017, the launch of ‘Mastercard Blockchain‘ was announced, a business-to-business (B2B) facility allowing businesses and financial institutions to transact on a distributed ledger.
‘Mastercard Labs’, the research and development arm headquartered in Dublin, are ambitiously developing ‘Mastercard Blockchain’. In a statement, Executive Vice President of Mastercard Labs, Ken Moore said:
“By combining Mastercard blockchain technology with our settlement network and associated network rules, we have created a solution that is safe, secure, auditable and easy to scale.”
