AT&T Launches Enterprise Blockchain Solutions With IBM and Microsoft Azure

The world’s largest telecommunications firm, AT&T launches enterprise blockchain solutions in collaboration with technology from IBM Blockchain and Microsoft Azure. According to the announcement on Wednesday, AT&T is offering a suite of blockchain services that have been designed to help businesses automate and digitise processes using blockchain technology. In a $738,000 deal without competitive bidding, the corporate friendly U.S. state of Delaware signs IBM to develop a blockchain filing system prototype on its Hyperledger Fabric blockchain. Delaware aims to utilise blockchain technology to assist business registration, and allow corporations to take advantage of smart contracts to automatically track stocks and collateral assets in real time. With more than half of all U.S. publicly traded companies, and two thirds of the fortune 500 incorporated in the state, it is a significant move.

RBS, one of the world’s 30 largest financial institutions, has confirmed that it has been leading a consortia of banks to develop an enterprise blockchain standard platform entitled Cordite, which will allow the banking industry to launch crypto tokens on one network. Utilising the coding of R3 Corda blockchain technology, the open source CorDApp aims to do what the ERC-20 standard did for Ethereum, ensuring that all tokens adhere to a set of functions, anywhere within the Cordite system.

Global software giant SAP introduces Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) to its SAP Leonardo service, with Hyperledger Fabric and MultiChain. Through the inter-connectivity of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) into “one ecosystem”, SAP have outlined their plan to take on Salesforce in the CRM market. CEO, Bill McDermott stated that the company “was the last to accept the status quo of CRM, and is now first to change it. That’s a guarantee.”

HTC announces its new blockchain phone ‘Exodus’, it will serve as both a mobile connecting point to blockchain networks and a storage device for cryptocurrencies. Heading the blockchain initiative is HTC Vive founder, Phil Chen, who said they are looking to integrate protocols like ethereum and DFinity within the blockchain phone. HTC aims to start distributing the device with an unprecedented ‘pre-sale’ exclusively to the crypto community, accepting bitcoin and ethereum as payment. HSBC says it has completed the world’s first ‘commercially viable’ blockchain trade finance transaction with Dutch lender ING, for the U.S. food and agricultural group Cargill. HSBC’s claim that the Corda blockchain platform, developed by blockchain start-up R3, is ready for commercial use by the $9tn market for trade finance. Vivek Ramachandran, HSBC’s head of innovation and growth for commercial banking said, “The next stage is actually encouraging as many participants as possible to sign up to the utility”.

Oracle, one of the world’s largest software companies, are launching a blockchain “enterprise level ‘platform-as-a-service’ product this month, and decentralised ledger based applications next month.” Thomas Kurian, President of Software Development, said “Oracle’s products will also be pitched to pharmaceutical companies to track and trace batches of medicine, which may potentially ease recalls.” He added that they are already working with clients on projects, such as the government of Nigeria to use blockchain for their customs and import duties, and a hyperledger project with Banco de Chile.
